Oppose: This whitewashing history bill would require teachers to explore controversial topics from "diverse and contending perspectives," which could be interepreted to mean that teachers would have to discuss the white supremacist justification for the 2019 El Paso Walmart shooting, for example. The bill would also bar teaching concepts that "serve to inculcate" certain ideas about history as it pertains to race, as well as eliminate requirements to teach about Black history, the history of marginalized groups, and the history of white supremacy.

Update August 25, 2021: This bill was passed favorably by the Senate and sent to the House where it was assigned to the Public Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on Aug. 24, also considering companion bill HB 28, but has not taken further action on either bill.
