AUSTIN — Last night, the Texas Senate voted to confirm the House’s amended version of Senate Bill 4 (SB4), the bill that would turn Texas into a “show me your papers” state, ban “sanctuary cities” policies and require local law enforcement to serve as federal immigration agents.

HOUSTON — Last night, the Texas House of Representatives voted in favor of Senate Bill 4 (SB4), the bill that would ban “sanctuary cities” policies and require local law enforcement to serve as federal immigration agents. The bill now heads to Governor Greg Abbott, who is expected to sign it.
AUSTIN – As Texas House and Senate committees today consider two bills that would effectively codify discrimination against LGBT Texans, leading civil and religious liberties organizations warn that lawmakers are pushing Texas in a dangerous direction.
On April 12, the Houston City Council passed an ordinance that bans homeless encampments in public places and places restrictions on panhandling on the city’s medians. Specifically, the ordinance prohibits temporary shelters, tents and cooking devices.
