HOUSTON—A group of extreme opponents to safe, legal abortion and women’s abilities to make the best medical decisions for their lives have launched a smear campaign to undermine the work of Planned Parenthood, using highly edited recorded footage and making claims that are untrue.
The following is a statement from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas:
"It’s clear that the sources of these attacks have one goal in mind: To reduce access to a woman’s constitutional right to safe, legal abortion by launching a deceptive political attack against one of the most trusted women’s health care providers in the country. Women, men, and young people — especially the uninsured and under-insured — have counted on Planned Parenthood for almost 100 years for high quality, affordable health care services and family planning education. These politically motivated attacks are an attempt to manipulate public opinion, to vilify trusted health care providers and to advance a decades-long effort to take away women’s access to abortion and other important health services.”
