ACLU Of Texas Reacts To Reports Of FBI Investigation of Texas DPS

The following may be attributed to Executive Director Terri Burke: “We are pleased by reports that Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw responded so quickly to our call for an independent investigation of the fatal shooting by a DPS sharpshooter last week. Reports that he has requested the Justice Department and the FBI to look into the matter are welcome. Yesterday, we joined with other civil rights organizations (LUPE (La Unión Del Pueblo Entero), Rio Grande Valley Equal Voice Network, and Texas Civil Rights Project) to express our concerns that the actions by state law enforcement in this instance violated Constitutional safeguards and we welcome an independent investigation to ascertain the facts about what happened and why.”
