AUSTIN -- “The ACLU of Texas isn’t convinced that this will shorten wait times.  DPS will need the additional budget allocations to simply maintain the current level of services now that the legislature has forced Texans to obtain a state ID to vote and DPS employees must interpret complicated immigration and naturalization documents,” said Matt Simpson, Policy Strategist with the ACLU of Texas.  “DPS megacenters will do nothing to assist those individuals in rural counties who risk losing their fundamental right to vote because they cannot travel long distances to obtain a drivers license,” Simpson said.
