AUSTIN – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas will mark Human Rights Day, December 10, with a free screening of 9500 Liberty, a poignant and powerful film about what can happen when small communities adopt ordinances like Arizona’s controversial and unconstitutional SB 1070. Following the film, there will be a brief update on immigration legislation that has been filed for the upcoming 82nd legislative session and a summary presentation on the state of human rights in Texas.

“Our congratulations and our gratitude go out to the makers of 9500 Liberty who have turned a spotlight on a phenomenon that is sadly sweeping our land: communities taking immigration enforcement into their own hands. At its heart, 9500 Liberty is a story of a community that lost its core and almost lost its soul,” said Terri Burke, Executive Director ACLU of Texas.
