“Even though the tower is on private land and built with private monies, the Christian symbol of a cross positioned near the TAMU-San Antonio seal on a building which is the gateway to a public university understandably raises First Amendment concerns. We hope that university administrators would be more sensitive to the unwelcoming, exclusive message this sends,” said Terri Burke, Executive Director of the ACLU of Texas.
“We urge administrators to work with students to address these concerns and stand ready to support those students who seek a dialogue on this matter,” Burke added.
