AUSTIN — In the past week, two lawsuits have been filed by Texas religious groups seeking to overturn Austin’s ordinances that protect LGBTQ people from discrimination.
Kali Cohn, staff attorney for the ACLU of Texas, had this reaction:
“These lawsuits lay bare the true agenda of opponents of LGBTQ equality: licensing widespread discrimination against LGBTQ people in the name of religious liberty. They claim the right to fire people, or refuse to rent them housing, simply because they are LGBTQ. That’s not what religious freedom means.”
