Voices of the Movement: A Community Forum

September 29, 2016 @ 6:00 pm
September 30, 2016 @ 5:45 pm

Come hear stories and poetry from Houstonians affected by mass incarceration! Join community members, activists, issue experts, advocates, and organizations as we share our experiences and explore solutions to fix our criminal justice system.

The forum will examine the problem of mass incarceration, its causes, and some effective solutions for ending the expensive and destructive overuse of incarceration. In particular, the program will focus on mental health diversion from jails, bail reform issues, immigration consequences of police involvement, and drug policy. After welcome statements, a moderator will lead a town hall discussion.

This event is open to all and free to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. Voter registration forms will be available and participating organizations will have experts on hand to answer questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
