In 2016, Austin City Council passed the Fair Chance Hiring ordinance which prohibits employers from checking an applicant’s criminal history until a job offer is on the table. Join us on April 28th to discuss the background of this ordinance and get an update on its implementation and enforcement.

April is Second Chance Month, and to honor this, the ACLU of Texas and Grassroots Leadership are hosting a Fair Chance Hiring Community Conversation. This event will center some of the folks who were instrumental in the passage of this ordinance by creating a space to share its history and discuss its potential impact. We’re very excited that Austin’s new City Manager will also be attending to provide an update on the status of the ordinance’s implementation and for Q&A. Please join us in creating a dialogue between criminal justice advocates, community members, and City staff about Fair Chance Hiring in the City of Austin.

If you are not on Facebook and would like to RSVP to the event, please email Gabriella Beker.
