HIPHOP Against Police Brutality

It seems that when you walk the ghetto You walk wit' your own point of view/ You judge a man by the car he drives
Or if his hat match his shoe/Well, back in the days of Sherlock Holmes  A man was judged by a clue/
Now he's judged by if he's Spanish, Black, Italian or Jew/
So do not kick my door down and tie me up
While my wife cooks the stew/ Cos you were put here to protect us But who protects us from you?

KRS-One "Who Protects Us From You"

What is HipHop Against Police Brutality?

HipHop Against Police Brutality is a part of the Campaign to End Racial Profiling. It seeks to empower young people and communities of color by organizing against police misconduct and racial profiling.  We believe that HipHop Kulture is a powerful vehicle for social justice.

HipHop Against Police Brutality follows the 18 principles contained in the HipHop Declaration of Peace. Through these principles we, the HipHop Kulture, establish a foundation of health, love, awareness, wealth, peace, and prosperity for ourselves, and our children. Our work is centered on the Fourteenth Principle which states that:

"HipHoppas are encouraged to eliminate poverty, speak out against injustice, and to shape a more caring society and a more peaceful world. HipHop Kulture supports a dialogue and action that heal divisions in society, address the legitimate concerns of humankind, and advance the cause of peace."

In Texas, Hiphoppas and communities of color have no redress or protection against abuse and police misconduct.  HipHop Against Police Brutality fully understands that it is up to us to protect our community from police misconduct.

We call on all Hiphoppas to join us in this struggle!
