National Initiatives

During 2005, the nation's prison population increased by 2.4%. Additonally, more than $60 million is appropriated to corrections at the federal level. By contrast, only $34 million is appropriated to Homeland Security.

Nationall, there are several efforts to address the growing prison population and provide services to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated persons in an effort to reduce recividism.
